EAST BOSTON, Mass. – In April 2018, Boston Magazine’s “On the Market” series featured the most unusual listing in Jeffrey Bowen’s portfolio that season: a three-bedroom houseboat docked at a marina in Eagle Hill, East Boston, offered at $250,000 through ERA Russell Realty Group.
Where East Boston waterfront homes were commanding upwards of $700 per square foot, the magazine noted, this one asked $179 per square foot – because it isn’t on the waterfront, it is in the water. The two-story floating home packs 1,400 square feet into an open-concept living and dining area, a kitchen with a breakfast bar, a bedroom with a walk-in closet, and a second-floor balcony; its deck looks out to where the Chelsea River empties into the harbor, with container ships, cranes, and the Tobin Bridge for a view. The terms were serious-inquiries-only: cash offers, with a proof-of-funds letter required before a viewing.
This was a listing feature – the home was the subject, and Bowen was its listing broker – and the magazine closed by directing readers to him at ERA Russell Realty Group.
