At a full ten minutes, this June 2011 tour is an unhurried walk through Unit 224 at Porter 156 Lofts, filmed for its rental offering. It is one of the earliest long-form loft tours in Jeffrey Bowen’s library — the building, as much as the unit, was the product: a professionally managed loft community beside Logan Airport.
Porter 156 holds 216 lofts converted in 2005 from a former bra factory at 156 Porter Street in East Boston. The original marketing stressed the door-to-door run: the Blue Line sits across the renovated park, and downtown Boston was pitched at under ten minutes away. Unit 224 was offered into a building whose lofts rented quickly, and this video was the showing that ran around the clock.
The East Boston around Porter Street was part of the pitch — tennis courts, a soccer field, a bocce court, a yacht club, bike paths and Piers Park with its sailing lessons.
